Advocacy Support
Starfish Savers understands the struggle of working with Disability Services. We help to develop an adequate set of accommodations influenced by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act or the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Many of our coaches have experience working with disability related laws and can advocate with you so you can get what you need. We also can provide our services to help you or your child understand a disability or disorder and advocate for yourself.
We prefer to observe clients in their natural environment including home, school and work to determine strengths and barriers. This also helps us to determine IEP/504 accommodations, goals, services, and positive behavioral supports and placement. At least one follow-up observation is useful to assess progress. Observations are generally scheduled for thirty minutes to one hour depending on the policy of the environment. Follow-up sessions with teachers, employers, and/or parents help us to ensure success. We will be right by your side through the challenging process of accommodation management!
We will review most recent testing, Individual Education Plans (IEP), progress reports or any other information you would like to provide. Our professional and personal experiences will give you a broad knowledge about individual strengths and needs as a client.
Support includes phone consultations with parents, teachers and/ or specialists to discuss strengths, weaknesses, goals, objectives and accommodations. Support may include involvement in the IEP meetings and working with you as a parent to develop documentation reflecting your input of your child’s strengths and weaknesses, goals and objectives.
